“Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates Body and Spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.” - 2 Corinthians 7:1
What dear promises? That he will receive us, be a Father to us, and the promise that will be His sons and daughters. Those promises deserve a response. My response is to be one of purity and holiness that flows out of worship and reverence and not from obligation.
I must take responsibility to avoid sin. That is the part God calls me to do. He does what only He can do – make me holy. And I do what only I can do – avoid sin. My motivation must be worship – my response to a revelation of who He is – not guilt, obligation or trying to work my way to God. I avoid sin because I love Him.
