Bethel History

January 1923 - Under the direction of Rev. Price, people who were at a meeting in the American Eagles Hall, Bethel Tabernacle purchased a parcel of land at the corner of Church and Locust Street and a building was started. The new building was dedicated in November of 1923.

For many years Bethel Tabernacle prospered, the group was extremely involved with evangelism and reaching out to the community.

In the early 1960's, under the direction of Rev. Ed Wood, the leadership of Bethel made a decision to purchase land at the corner of Ham Lane and Sylvia Drive, a location which was considered "on the outskirts of town" during that time. In 1965 the first stage of the new facility was completed. The building still stands as Bethel's meeting place today.

In June of 1974 Pastor James Pluimer was called to Lodi as the Senior Pastor. With a strong commitment to raising up an emerging younger generation, Pastor Pluimer began to invest tremendous time and effort into developing young leaders. In time, Bethel began to experience growth and effectiveness at a level never seen before.

Throughout the 1980's and 1990's Bethel was transformed into a culturally relevant and dynamic center of worship. With a focus on reaching un-reached people, building strong men and women and healthy families, the congregation developed a tremendous "inner strength" founded on Biblical principles and a genuine love for people.

In June of 2004, Bethel, under the new pastoral leadership of Mark and Jana Wood, look forward with anticipation and excitement for a continued time of fruitful ministry, intentional evangelism, and effectiveness in the kingdom of Christ.
